Lily of the valley

Lily of the valley – the scent of early spring and eternal charm

Lily of the valley ( Convallaria majalis ) is one of the loveliest spring flowers — its irresistibly fragrant white bells appear as early as May. A true shade garden specialist: it grows well under trees, in the shade of shrubs and along the north facade of buildings, spreading through rhizomes as a dense green carpet.

There is something for everyone in the variety selection: 'Grandiflora' (larger flower), romantic 'Rosea' (pink shade), double-flowered 'Prolificans' and light-edged 'Hardwick Hall' .

Growing location: partial shade or shade, humus-rich moist soil. Minimal maintenance — no cutting, no fertilizing. Once planted, it will last in the garden for generations.

NB! Poisonous plant — all parts of the plant, including the berries, are toxic. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Perfect for: natural-style gardens, understory plants for trees, and shaded areas of rock gardens.
