Description
The variety was bred by the well-known American hybridizer Darrel Apps and was introduced to the market in 1982. The flowers are intense dark red (burgundy or wine red) with a contrasting lemon yellow to green throat. The flowers are rather small (diameter approx. 7 cm), but there are many of them on the plant at once. It is a low-growing and compact variety, 45–60 cm high. One of the few red varieties that repeats, offering flower beauty from June to August (sometimes even until September). Unlike many daylilies, the flowers of 'Pardon Me' are pleasantly fragrant. Night bloomer: a so-called "nocturnal" variety - the flowers open in the late afternoon and remain open until the next morning or noon. The variety is very winter-hardy and undemanding. Like many other daylilies, the flowers and buds of this variety are edible. Has received several high awards from the American Helianthus Society (AHS), including the Award of Merit (1987).
