Description
The creeping rhizome of this rare plant exudes a blood-red sap when broken. In spring, white double flowers bloom before the leaves appear, and gray-green leaves unfurl at the end of flowering. The height of the foliage is 25-35 cm. It needs a moderately moist, but well-drained, nutrient-rich, shady or semi-shady location. During long droughts, it must be watered to prevent the leaves from drying out too early. They usually start to turn yellow in August.
