Description
This species does not yet have an Estonian name. It grows naturally in the northern part of the island of Gotland in Sweden. The erect dark inflorescences bloom in the first half of summer and gradually change color, varying from green to grayish-violet. The species name varia comes from the alternating color of the inflorescences. Height 90–120 cm. Tolerates fairly poor soil and copes well with competition from tree roots. Spreads with short rhizomes, does not become invasive. Use on moderately moist soil in a sunny or slightly shaded location.
